Overview
The hike from Chisapini to Nagarkot is the perfect short hike around Kathmandu, which can be conduct a year-round. It can be a weekend getaway from the hustle bustle of the city. After driving 45 minutes from Kathmandu the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek starts from Sundarijal. We begin the trekking walking through Shivapuri National Park passing through a big watershed which provides 40% drinking water to Kathmandu valley. The trek offers a beautiful nature and village walk experience, beautiful Himalaya panorama of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Gaurishankar Himal, and Langtang Himal. Even we can spot Mount Everest in far distance.
After walking 4-5 hours from Sundarijal you will reach to Chispani. The weather in Chisapani is always cold as its name is Chisapani, meaning “cold water” in Nepali. You will enjoy the real boon of nature being away from the noise of Kathmandu. You will feel better to be away from crowded busy city life. Your interaction with the local people will add another experience. You will walk through jungle from Chisapani to Lapsi Phedi hearing bird chirpings is pleasurable excursion.
After walking about 3 hours from Chisapani we will reach to Chauki Bhanjyang, a lunch break spot. The hiking continues to Nagarkot, the beautiful village full of standard hotels, lodges and resorts. The sunrise view from Nagarkot is outstanding and fascinating scenery reflecting rays of sun to gigantic White Mountains. Nagarkot is situated at an altitude of 2,195m from sea level is on the edge of the valley. Along with this you visit the Changunarayan temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples in Nepal. The visit to temple offers you to have a peek observation of the religious practice of Nepalese people. And your sightseeing tour in medieval ancient town Bhaktapur can be beautiful lifetime experience for sure.
Outline Itinerary
Day 01: Kathmandu – Chisapani (2,115m). 5 hrs walk
Day 02: Chisapani – Nagarkot (2,195m). 8 hrs walk
Day 03: Nagarkot – Changunarayan – Bhaktapur Durbar Square – Kathmandu
We drive to Sundarijal (hiking starting point) and it takes about 40 minutes to reach the point. You can observe the beautiful Sundarijal waterfall, also water shed which is supplied to Kathmandu valley, the capital of Nepal. You will head towards Chisopani via Mulkharka passing by Tamang village. The route of dense forest will start from Mulkharka, after 4 -5 hrs. of hike takes us to Chhisapani (meaning cold water). Overnight stay at lodge.
After breakfast we start our hike to Nagarkot, for 2 – 3 hours we follow unsealed road through the forest. We can feel nature and we can hear birds chirping, then descend down to Jhule and Chauki Bhanjyang, where we stop for a lunch. Furthermore, we continue our trek trek to Nagarkot passing through villages and terraced fields. We can enjoy with the local village life style. The trail ascends up from Kattikey Bhanjyang to Nagarkot. Overnight stay in lodge.
After breakfast we walk towards Changunarayan, one of the oldest medieval Hindu temples in Nepal. Explore the Changunarayan temple and drive to Bhaktapur by car. We will do a sightseeing in stunning old Bhaktapur Durbar Suare. We will do a lunch at Bhaktapur and drive back to Kathmandu.
